Parkersburg, WV: Children at Head Start Program Showcase Character For Parents

Children in the Henry Logan Head Start made body letters for the Six Pillars, learned how the tower of trust works, and listened to readings that reinforce the Pillars. It was all part of the 45-minute classes in CC! that Bettie Lucas taught over seven weeks in 2002, for two classrooms. At the end of the session, the children presented a program for their parents, showcasing what they learned. Bettie is a certified CC! trainer and member of the Family and Community Education Association.

Over 80 children learned about CHARACTER COUNTS! at Martin Luther King, Jr. Youth Fair Day on January 21, 2002. The youngsters danced the Six Pillars Shuffle, watched the Talking Hands Puppets in a play about fairness, and enacted a fairness dialogue using puppet dogs and fish. Members of the Family and Community Education Association presented this free event, and "A Season of Nonviolence Planning Committee," a team leadership project of the Brushy Fork Institute in Berea, Kentucky, sponsored it.
