Fort Lewis, WA: Students and Families Work Together to Promote Character, Peace

School-age children at Fort Lewis’ Beachwood Center participated in character-related activities in a summer curriculum focused on CC!. Throughout the season, classrooms performed cheers, songs, dances, exercises, and cadences celebrating the Six Pillars for an audience of parents and peers.

Supporting world peace was a priority for students and their families. Mentors working with students to assess the safety of playground equipment related the project to larger peace issues. The culminating lesson was an evening event in which families walked through the school with their children and planted a peach tree to remember a beloved staff member. The students made posters celebrating peace and carried them during the walk.
